PERSONALITY: Fye is a caring and an outgoing person. He makes friends quite easily. He’s really good at hiding his emotions behind a smile. He’s a good cook and seems to be quite an artist too. He likes drinking alcohol a bit too much. Fye’s a good fighter despite the fact he seems better at defending himself than at attacking.

Behind his happy go lucky facade, Fye hides a more complex personality. Due to his goal he shouldn’t become attached to his companions and tries to keep his distance emotionally from the rest of the group. But it’s easier to say than to do and the mage quickly developed a deep affection for his youngest fellow travellers. He took great risks for them, breaking twice his vow to do not use magic in order to save them and in order to keep the Shaolan Sakura loves among them.

He’s marked by his past and is eaten by guilt. In the early chapters of Tsubasa (Outo arc) Mokona told him “Even when you laugh, you’re thinking about something else”. He becomes anxious when people break through his façade. Kurogane guessed he was hiding something and it made Fye nervous each time the Ninja pointed it out.

To Kurogane’s displeasure, Fye doesn’t seem to value his own life much. He’d rather fight for his beloved ones than for himself. As he was about to die, he refused to be saved and got angry at Kurogane for keeping him alive. Until the end of the Celes arc he doesn’t seem to believe or simply doesn’t understand how important he’s for the ones who love him.

Fye came back stronger from Celes, now accepting to acknowledge the bonds he shares with Kurogane and Shaolan. No longer running away from his past and no longer wishing to die anymore he’s ready to do everything he can to save Sakura.

BACKGROUND:
In Valeria country the birth of the second prince’s son was an expected event, however his wife didn’t give birth to one child but to twins, Fye and Yuui.
Twins were considered as a bad omen in this country.
Shortly after their birth their father died . Some misfortunes happened to Valeria, crops died, water became tainted. Blaming herself for bringing misfortune to her country, the twins’ mother committed suicide.
The kids had both powerful magic powers and the risk that they’ll later surpass the current King was high.
Because he feared to bring greater misfortune to his country by killing the children, the king gave them a choice: one of them had to murder the other or he’d lock them both in a place where time doesn’t flow and where magic doesn’t exists.

As they refused to commit a fratricide, the kids were imprisoned in a valley covered by snow , overlooked by a huge tower. That place was also where the corpses of the Valerian sinners were thrown . Fye was locked up atop the tower whereas his brother Yuui remained at the bottom of the valley with the dead bodies.

Yuui tried to escape the valley by pilling up corpses and using them to climb up the huge walls but failed, Fai, could only watch him suffer .
More and more corpses were thrown into the valley, even babies and mothers. The king of Valeria became insane and executed the whole population of Valeria. He finally decided to throw himself into the valley. He committed suicide in front of Yuui, blaming the Twins for the fall of Valeria.

Fei Wong Reed, a powerful wizard, appeared one day to Fye, proposing him to save only one of them. Giving up his life against Yuui’s freedom, Fye was thrown from the top of the tower and died in front of his brother’s eyes.

Fei Wong Reed manipulated Yuui, giving him fragments of Fye’s memory to make him believe he chose to sacrifice his own brother to save his life. Using the Kid’s guilt he proposed him a deal. If the kid accepted to be cursed by him, he would give him a chance to bring Fye back to life.

FWR cursed him two times but only revealed him one of his curses. The kid just learned that he was fated to murder the first person whose magic outstood his.

In order to revive his brother, FWR told Yuui that someone would come to pick them up and save them. He also told him that one day he’d have to go on a journey to protect a princess whose memory would be scattered through space and time under the form of feathers. He would also have top eliminate any obstacle that would stand on his way.

As FWR predicted, King Ashura, from Celes country came to pick up Yuui and his dead brother. When he asked Yuui’s name, the Kid answered he was called Fye, attempting to erase a part of his sins by taking his brother’s name.

Fye grew up in Celes, learning magic from Ashura. Ashura couldn’t reverse Fye’s curses. One day he made the kid promise he’d do anything to protect Celes. That same day, he gave him a tattoo to seal off his magical powers. Fye protested, knowing that if he let his power grew the curse would become harder to fulfil, but Ashura told him that the curse would break once it was fulfilled and that he wanted to be the person Fye would kill. The king erased this last part from the kid’s memory.

Time passed, Fye became an adult and a dangerous beast started to murder the people of Celes. To his great sadness Fye discovered that his king was the monster terrorising th
e whole country. Ashura killed everybody in Celes, excepted Fye and him
Ashura’s power became stronger each time he killed. He knew that one day he’d become a murderer. Fye realised that Ashura brought him in Celes for murdering him once he reached that state. But Fye’s couldn’t harm the first person who showed him kindness. He threw a spell at his king, putting him into a deep sleep. He ran away from Celes and finally joined the Tsubasa group to start the journey.

Fye’s companions at the beginning of Tsubasa were: the princess Sakura and her devoted friend Shaolan, and Kurogane, a grumpy ninja from a world similar to feudal Japan. The four of them landed in the garden of Yuuko (The dimension witch), a powerful person able to grant wishes. Each one of them wanted to obtain the power to travel through space and time, but the price to grant this wish was too high to be paid separately, so they would have to pay together and travel together. Fye gave her his tattoo.

At the beginning of Tsubasa, Fye said he wouldn’t use his magic without his tattoo. But the mage became attached to his companions. Hiding his pain behind a happy go lucky attitude he build around him a mocking pattern of family where Sakura and Shaolan where the kids and Kurogane and him the parents.

If everything seems to be alright between him and the kids, his relationship with Kurogane=2
0is more complicated. The ninja is really observant person and few times he manages to break through the mage’s façade, pointing out that he was obviously hiding something.

Later in tsubasa (Tokyo arc) Fye would be severely injured and would lose his left eye As the mage was on the verge of dying but stubbornly refused to be saved, Kurogane took the decision to keep him alive ignoring his death wish . Following Yuuko’s advice Kurogane turned Fye into a vampire by making him drink a vampire’s blood. He also accepted to become his pray. Fye needs to drink his blood regularly to live.

Fye was mad at him for this, and decided to put some distance between them. He showed it by starting to call the ninja by his full name instead of one of his nicknames. His attitude changed, he grew colder and more formal, excepted with Sakura.

At the end of the Tokyo arc, Sakura , regaining her ability to foresee the future, saw that something terrible would happed to the group. Fye would murder them all and then commit suicide in the next world (infinity arc). She managed to change the future but at the end of the infinity arc, her magic became more powerful than Fye’s . Under a state of trance generated by his curse, Fye killed her. The body and the soul of the princess were separated. Her immaterial half was sent to a “dream world” and her body to Celes.

AThe remaining members of the group went to Celes where they met Ashura and eventually learned about Fye’s past. Fye’s other curse was activated and Kurogane sacrificed his left arm to save him.

They ended up in Kurogane’s world, Nihon. There, finally accepting Kurogane’s sacrifices for him he decided to make a wish to Yuuko in order to give back an arm to Kurogane in exchange of his remaining magic.
